Sylhet- (UNB)- Three coal and a lime mines were discovered at the hilly area in South Shahbajpur of Baralekha upazila of Moualvibazar district. Locals said the coal mines are located at Deochhara, Lonajur Chhara and Gandhai Tila and the lime mine in the same area. Some people collected the coal from the mine and using as fuel. Some specimens of coal were sent to the concerned department of Jahangirnagar University for test, which they reportedly found best in quality. With the discovery of the coal and lime mines over 10,000 people of the ten remote villages became enthusiastic expecting good days ahead. The villages, located ten kilometer off the upazila town, have no road communications with the upazila headquarters. LGED started constructing a road at the villages but the work stopped short of a tea garden which lay on the route. The owner of the private tea garden refused permission to build the road across the estate. Local people urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to construct a road to help explore the natural resources in the area. |
